A Dressier Fall Outfit

Friday, October 8, 2021

Finding a pretty and comfortable maternity dress in a dressier style is no easy task so I was very excited when I discovered Isabella Oliver; a British ethical brand that focuses on being sustainable. I partnered up with them to show you a few styles over the next few weeks and this navy dress is one of my favorite ones. I know I'll be wearing it post partum {hello buttons for breastfeeding!} and beyond. I love the front tie because it allows me to adjust the fit of dress as needed. It is machine washable and fits true to size. Very light material that is perfect for warm fall days and running around town with my toddler. Paired it here with my gingham sandals for a pop of color on my outfit. Can't wait to show you how I style it this winter once my baby is born.

Fall Floral Jumpsuit

Jumpsuit // Bag // Jacket {similar} // Shoes {similar}

It's been quite a while since I last did a style post on my blog. It was very difficult to try to find my mojo to work on content during this pandemic. Much like everyone else I felt confused, tired and a bit scared with everything happening around me. Styling outfits and going out for photoshoots was the last thing on my mind {and the fact we were mostly wearing lounge clothes around the house}. It's been 7+ months since we started our quarantine and it looks to me like the next few weeks and 2021 won't be much different, so I'm going to work with what I got and get back to my little blog because I love it so much and makes me happy to work on creative tasks.

Here I am in this lovely and very comfortable Rebecca Taylor La Vie Larkspur jumpsuit. I purchased it a few months back and it's now on sale! Technically it's not part of their fall collection but the navy blue background and florals make it appropriate for the season {in Texas anyway, where fall is 90 degrees HA!}. Runs true to size but if you are on the taller side I would size up. I am a size 2 but I usually grab an S in Rebecca Taylor jumpsuits because I find the XS is not long enough for my torso. Paired with a denim jacket and flats it's the perfect outfit to run around town doing errands with my toddler. Since winters are very mild in Texas I'll probably be wearing it later with a baggy navy sweater on top and white sneakers.

That's all I got for your today, talk to you soon!

Back To Work in Polka Dots

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

It is hard to believe I am officially back at the office and Eloise is now four months. I didn't think it would happen but I actually missed wearing office appropriate clothing during my maternity leave. As a matter of fact most of my purchases this past two months have been for work outfits. I spotted this dress while shopping for holiday sweaters and loved the navy/polka dot combo. Fits true to size, it is machine washable and does not cling to the body. Paired it with my Natalie Flint Emma pump, most comfortable heel EVER. I also gifted myself this Clare V bag I had been eyeing since forever; it was my back to work gift...love love LOVE IT! Throw on some classic Bobbi Brown lipstick and boom! Ready for work {after grabbing my venti Starbucks of course because baby}.

Happy first week of December!

PS
Dress sold out in a week but I linked something similar. Most importantly, get $50 dollars off a pair of Sarah Flint shoes with code BANICOLE50.

First Pregnancy: Building A Maternity Wardrobe

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

Maternity wear is a whole new world for me. As excited as I am to dress the bump and look good every day, I also don’t want to break the bank or purchase too much since this situation/body is temporary {hopefully! haha}. I see all kinds of adorable maternity dresses and jumpsuits but have limited myself to only purchasing a couple. I am a firm believer in investing in pieces I can wear long term, during and after pregnancy, so I decided to stick to the brands I normally purchase and go up a size. Madewell is one of my absolute favorite ones, so they were my starting point when my body started changing and I needed a couple dresses that would accommodate my chest and belly. Their selection did not disappoint.

Now, there are certain items I have bought that are in fact maternity, and I’ll be going over those in future posts. But for today in particular I want to share what I look for on a non-maternity piece:
  • Flowy silhouette
  • Elastic back {to accommodate an expanding chest}
  • Comfortable straps/sleeves
  • Longer length {shorter hems might become TOO short once the bump starts growing}
  • Washable Fabrics {dry cleaning? Ain’t nobody got time for that!}
  • Quality
Overall I am interested in a shape I’ll be able to wear AFTER the baby is born. This Madewell linen dress is the perfect example. It accommodates my upper body comfortably, has plenty of space for belly growth and I’ll be able to wear this for years to come since it’s a classic summer style. I did notice on their website the dress had low reviews due to it not being lined but I have to say I did not think it was an issue at all. I’ve worn it twice so far with nude underwear and it’s been fine. The skirt is so well constructed with plenty of fabric to create a beautiful ruffle flow around the dress. Personally, I love it without lining. I think it would have been way too hot for summer with extra fabric.

Paired here with sneakers is the perfect weekend outfit to head to brunch and errands. I can also see myself wearing it with sandals and a straw hat when I gets hotter and even wedges and a nice statement earring for date night.

I’m very excited to start these series on how to build a lean maternity wardrobe that you can wear for pregnancy and beyond. Looking forward to sharing more tips with you.

Until next time!
Nicole

Versatile Navy Dress

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

I can't believe it is my first post of 2019 and it' already March! Where does time go? I disappeared shortly after Christmas due to sickness. Took a long while to feel better but now that all is somewhat back to normal and got my energy back I am ready to hit the ground running with the blog! First off, one of my most worn items for the past two months. I ordered this dress online because it was listed as a "sweatshirt" dress {can't say no to comfy!} but upon receiving it I realized it's actually not sweatshirt material but a rather thick cotton. I have worn it to the office with black tights and booties and as seen above, with my beloved sneakers on the weekend. Runs TTS and hides a big lunch! What more could you ask for?!

Tomorrow I'll be heading to California to spend some time with my BFF for her birthday. I'm so excited for our getaway and all of the delicious food we are going to it :)

Happy Wednesday!

Indigo Silk Jumpsuit

Friday, October 12, 2018

HATCH is one of those brands I came across accidentally while perusing on Instagram. I immediately fell in love with the flowy looks and simple fabrics “but it is a maternity line and I am not pregnant.” I told myself. Until I went to their actual website and discovered their moto is to create long lasting pieces for before, during and after pregnancy…score! I partnered up with them and selected this gorgeous indigo silk jumpsuit that can we worn year round. I wore this outfit last night to grab dinner with my husband and will be styling it a bit different on Saturday night to go out. It is the most comfortable piece I own and the silk is quite substantial and thick so the shape of the jumpsuit remains intact while is being worn. When I was selecting my size I considered sizing down since I am not expecting but I went with their size guide and turned out perfect. Now I find myself scouting their website weekly to see what’s new. So many adorable choices!

Happy Friday! I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Printed Dress + Wool Sneakers

Sunday, September 30, 2018

Dress // Sneakers // Bag {similar} // Lipstick

With temperatures cooling off and the promise of crisp days, I'm ready to put my sandals away until next summer and start rocking fall shoes. While boots and flats are my go-to's during the week, sneakers are my favorite shoe to wear on weekends. I have a white pair and a gold pair that I wear to death, so while choosing my next one I went with a color I've been wearing a lot of lately, navy blue.

These Sperry wool sneakers are perfect for fall and winter, fabric is super soft and the boiled wool look is very chic. They come in navy, burgundy and gray.  They do run a bit big so I recommend you size down half a size. I also love the leopard printed sneakers, such a fun design!

Some of my favorite blogs have been featuring a lot of lace-less sneakers and I'm totally loving the easy vibe. I was looking at a classic black leather {they also come in navy} or even a soft gray or blue. These would be perfect for travel as you can easily take them off and put them back on during a long flight.

What's your favorite weekend shoe?

xx, Nicole
